How it works
- 1Enter your birth details
Date, exact time and place — your Lagna lord depends on the Ascendant, which needs an accurate birth time.
- 2We read your chart
The Ascendant and Moon lords are identified, along with the benefic and functional planets for your Lagna.
- 3See your gemstones
You get the gemstones traditionally suited to your chart, those to approach with caution, and the wider remedies.
The most common gemstone advice online — “wear this stone for your zodiac sign” — is also the least reliable. In Vedic astrology, the right gemstone follows the planets that rule your chart, above all your Lagna (Ascendant) lord and Moon lord — and the Ascendant needs an exact birth time. Acharya Jyotish fixes the Lagna to within 0.02° before recommending anything.
The nine planets and their stones
Each graha has a classical gemstone:
- Sun – Ruby (Manik) · Moon – Pearl (Moti) · Mars – Red Coral (Moonga)
- Mercury – Emerald (Panna) · Jupiter – Yellow Sapphire (Pukhraj) · Venus – Diamond (Heera)
- Saturn – Blue Sapphire (Neelam) · Rahu – Hessonite (Gomed) · Ketu – Cat’s Eye (Lehsunia)
The art is choosing which of these suits your chart. A planet that is a functional benefic for your Lagna is strengthened by its stone; a malefic one is not — so the same gemstone helps one person and harms another.
A word of caution
Two stones deserve respect: Blue Sapphire (Neelam) and Diamond (Heera) are powerful and fast-acting, and are only advised when Saturn or Venus is genuinely benefic for your Ascendant. This is exactly where a chart-based reading beats a sun-sign list — it tells you whether the planet is a friend before suggesting its stone. Treat all gemstone advice as a traditional remedy (upaya), worn thoughtfully.

Frequently asked questions
Which gemstone should I wear according to my Rashi?+
Vedic astrology recommends gemstones by the planets that rule your chart — primarily your Lagna (Ascendant) lord and Moon lord — not by sun sign alone. Each planet has a classical stone: Sun–Ruby, Moon–Pearl, Mars–Red Coral, Mercury–Emerald, Jupiter–Yellow Sapphire, Venus–Diamond, Saturn–Blue Sapphire, Rahu–Hessonite (Gomed) and Ketu–Cat's Eye.
Is the gemstone recommendation free?+
Yes. Acharya Jyotish generates your free chart, identifies your Lagna and Moon lords and the benefic planets for your Ascendant, and suggests suitable gemstones along with the rest of your remedies — at no cost.
Why is a Blue Sapphire (Neelam) considered risky?+
Saturn's Blue Sapphire is famously fast-acting and is only advised when Saturn is genuinely benefic for your Lagna. Worn wrongly it can backfire, which is why classical guidance urges testing it first. A chart-based recommendation tells you whether Saturn is a friend before suggesting Neelam — generic sun-sign lists cannot.
Can I choose a gemstone by date of birth alone?+
Date of birth gives your Moon sign, but the most important factor — your Lagna (Ascendant) lord — needs your exact birth time and place. That is why an accurate full chart gives a far more reliable gemstone recommendation than a date-only table.
Do gemstones really work in astrology?+
In Vedic tradition, gemstones are a remedial measure (upaya) meant to strengthen a beneficial planet. Treat the recommendation as traditional guidance, wear stones thoughtfully, and approach the caution stones carefully — the value is in matching the stone to your actual chart, not in a one-size-fits-all list.
