Choosing a wedding date in the Hindu tradition is itself an act of astrology. A vivah muhurat is an auspicious window chosen so that the marriage begins under supportive stars — the right tithi, a marriage-friendly nakshatra, and a clean rising sign, while avoiding the periods when marriages are traditionally paused. This guide lists the auspicious marriage dates for 2026, month by month, and explains the gaps so you know exactly when the wedding season opens and closes.

The dates below follow Drik Panchang for the Delhi–NCR region. They hold across most of India, but the exact muhurat timing is location-based — always confirm the precise window for your city and, ideally, against the couple’s charts before fixing a date.

That is around 59 auspicious wedding dates in 2026, concentrated in two seasons: a spring–summer window (February to mid-July) and a winter window (late November to mid-December).

Why four months have no dates

The empty months are not an oversight — they are governed by classical rules:

  • Chaturmas (August–October). The four holy months, beginning around Devshayani Ekadashi in mid-July, when Lord Vishnu is said to enter cosmic sleep. Marriages and other auspicious ceremonies pause until Dev Uthani (Prabodhini) Ekadashi, around 20 November 2026 — which is exactly why the first winter dates appear on 21 November.
  • Kharmas / Malmas (January). When the Sun transits Sagittarius (Dhanu) into mid-January, marriages are avoided. Combined with early-year planetary combustion, this leaves no vivah muhurat in January 2026.
  • Shukra & Guru Ast. Marriages are also avoided when Venus (Shukra) or Jupiter (Guru) is combust — both are essential significators of marriage, and their combustion removes otherwise-clear dates.

What actually makes a date auspicious

A genuine vivah muhurat is more than a date on a list — it is a time window that satisfies several conditions at once:

  1. Tithi — favourable lunar days, avoiding the inauspicious ones.
  2. Nakshatra — a marriage-supporting star: Rohini, Mrigashira, Magha, the Uttara nakshatras, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Mula, Uttara Ashadha or Revati (you will see these recurring throughout the table above).
  3. No combustion of Venus or Jupiter, and outside Chaturmas and Kharmas.
  4. A clean lagna — the rising sign at the chosen hour should be free of affliction, which is what fixes the time within the day.

Because point 4 is location- and time-specific, two couples marrying on the same date in different cities may have different ideal hours.

Match the date to the couple, not just the calendar

The dates above are the general auspicious days. The strongest weddings also check the couple’s compatibility and time the ceremony to their charts. Before fixing a date, run a free Kundli Matching / Gun Milan for the bride and groom, and read what a Kundli is to understand the chart underneath the muhurat. For the precise muhurta time on your chosen day and city, confirm with a panchang or an astrologer.

A wedding date chosen well is the first blessing of the marriage — start from this calendar, then make it precise.

Frequently asked questions

How many auspicious marriage dates are there in 2026?+

There are roughly 59 auspicious Hindu marriage dates in 2026, spread across February to July and November to December. There are no vivah muhurat dates in January, August, September or October. (Dates per Drik Panchang for the Delhi–NCR region; they vary slightly by city and tradition.)

Which months in 2026 have no marriage muhurat, and why?+

January, August, September and October have no vivah muhurat in 2026. August to October fall within Chaturmas — the four holy months when Lord Vishnu is said to rest and marriages are paused. January is affected by Kharmas (the Sun in Sagittarius) and by planetary combustion early in the year.

Do vivah muhurat dates change by city?+

The dates are largely the same across India, but the exact muhurat timing is location-based — it depends on local sunrise and the rising sign, so the auspicious window shifts by city, and occasionally a borderline date can differ. Always confirm the precise muhurta for your location before fixing a wedding.

What makes a date an auspicious vivah muhurat?+

A favourable tithi, a marriage-friendly nakshatra (such as Rohini, Mrigashira, Magha, the Uttara nakshatras, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Mula, Uttara Ashadha or Revati), the avoidance of Chaturmas and Kharmas, no combustion of Venus or Jupiter, and a clean rising sign (lagna) at the chosen time.

When does Chaturmas end in 2026?+

Marriages resume after Dev Uthani (Prabodhini) Ekadashi, around 20 November 2026 — which is why the first winter wedding dates fall on 21 November. The pause begins around Devshayani Ekadashi in mid-July.
